In 2006, a special edition was released to celebrate both Freddie Mercury's 60th birthday and the 10th anniversary of the unveiling of his statue in Montreux.
To mark this double anniversary, Freddie Mercury Memorial Day was extended for the first time to two days, 1 and 2 September, with a particularly packed programme.
Guests of honour included Jer Bulsara and Kashmira Cooke, Freddie's mother and sister, as well as Rudi Dolezal, who presented a previously unseen documentary about the artist, followed by a discussion with the audience. Argentinian band DSR (Dios Salve a la Reina) electrified the audience with a concert retracing Queen's greatest hits, while the Stravinski Auditorium hosted a grandiose performance by the Queen Symphony, conducted by Tolga Kashif and bringing together more than 100 musicians on stage.
The weekend also featured a participatory work entitled Le Passage, conceived by artist Grego Matos, which offered a visual interpretation of Freddie Mercury's voice. The presence of personalities such as Jim Beach, David Richards and Claude Nobs reinforced the importance of this edition, confirming Montreux as a place of remembrance for the singer's admirers.
