After Montreux Music came to an end, a new era began in 2016 with the creation of the Montreux Celebration Association, founded by Norbert Muller on 30 June.

Its ambition: to revive the events dedicated to Freddie Mercury in the city he loved so much.

On 3 September, the singer's 70th birthday, fans gathered around Freddie's statue for a day of festivities. Around the food stands and in a musical atmosphere entirely dedicated to Queen, Peter Freestone offered cruises to the Lake House and presented his book Freddie Mercury's Royal Recipes exclusively during a book signing session. In the evening, the Temple St.-Vincent resonated with the harmonies of the Royal Squeeze Box duo, before a Queen disco hosted by Jacky Smith, president of the Queen International Fan Club, set the NED Club alight.

At the same time, the Montreux Casino hosted the official anniversary party organised by the Mercury Phoenix Trust. The audience was treated to a spectacular show by Queen Extravaganza, headlined by Marc Martel.

The following day, Sunday 4 September, Peter Freestone continued his discussions with the audience, while Royal Squeeze Box returned to the lake shore for another musical session.

This edition of the Freddie Celebration Days marked an important renewal, illustrating the coexistence of two parallel events, both dedicated to Freddie Mercury's legacy in Montreux.
